Community Leader: Mayor Panepinto

City politics are founded on the backs of people; and for the politics of cities to benefit the people they are supposed to serve, they must be in the hands of individuals who watch out for the good of all. For mayor of Hammond Peter Panepinto, that dedication to the people of the city and their needs is precisely what drove him to enter the political sphere in the first place. “I love my city and wanted to do everything I could to make it better,” says Panepinto, who began to follow local politics as a 20 year-old and felt that his experience in business would make him a good asset to the city. Before running for mayor, he worked for the city as the Building Official and then as Director of Administration.
