Survivor Stories: Debra Friloux

Debra Friloux

Debra Friloux’s journey with Triple Negative Breast Cancer began on December 20, 2023. She faced 16 rounds of chemotherapy and a double mastectomy, during which 12 lymph nodes were removed. Remarkably, Debra encountered no major obstacles, staying focused on fighting the disease and continuing to enjoy life with her family. Surrounded by her supportive husband, children, grandchildren, and friends, she never worried about meals, a clean house, or laundry.

Staying positive was Debra’s key to coping. She leaned on a Facebook group of women who shared her diagnosis and joined You Night, a community of cancer survivors. These connections gave her a safe space to share her feelings and feel understood. Debra advises other women facing a cancer diagnosis to remain positive and find a support group that makes them feel comfortable.

Though less active than before, Debra found solace in walking during her chemotherapy and crafting wreaths when the weather was too hot. Sharing her story has been a healing process, and she hopes it brings others hope. You Night allowed her to build friendships and gain perspective on the different experiences survivors face, all while reinforcing that “you’ve got this.”
