Summer is often painted as a carefree season—beach days, late sunsets, and no school. But for many families right here in our community, it marks the beginning of their most difficult stretch of the year.

When school lets out, thousands of local children lose access to the consistent meals provided through school breakfast and lunch programs. For some, those were the only full meals they could count on. And without that safety net, summer becomes a season of scarcity.

That’s where EmpowerHER Life comes in. From June 6 through July 7, they’re organizing a community-wide Summer Food Drive designed to fill that gap for local families. This grassroots effort isn’t backed by a national nonprofit or large corporation—it’s fueled entirely by locals who saw a need and chose to step in.
